If you are chronically ill or on the sensitive side, I recommend you start here or with a very short duration of TRE
We can think of our nervous systems being flexible and fluid parts of us. From being still and resting and digesting, to being socially engaged and connected and growing and repairing the body, to playing, creating, and being active and stimulated, our nervous system states are crucial to all of that.
In a state of overall balance, our nervous system can move easily and to the proper degrees throughout different states throughout the day, depending on our needs and our internal and external environment. In simple terms, we can think of someone who generally feels safe and secure and connected as having a healthier and more regulated nervous system.
In a state of disease and feeling unwell, our nervous system does not move fluidly and tends to over or under-react to stimuli. Someone who generally feels unsafe, overwhelmed, insecure, and traumatized has more dysregulation of his or her nervous system.
Living in our modern, toxin and stress and trauma-filled world makes it easy for us to be living in a mild to severe state of nervous system dysregulation. In my view, and the view of many, we believe that chronic illness syndromes such as CFS, MCS, MCAS, Fibromyalgia, Food Sensitivities, etc, are also strongly rooted in the health and regulation of the nervous system. That’s why bringing awareness and attention to improving our nervous system health is so vital.
Some examples of nervous system regulation exercises could be:
Vagal Toning
Visualizations
Breath patterns
Orienting
Self-Touch
Functional Neurology Eye Exercises
Somatic Movement
Kidney/Adrenal/Brainstem Focusing
And more

TRE is an easy-to-learn DIY relaxation method. The first part, for most individuals, consists of a few simple warm-up exercises primarily of the legs and back. Then, for the second part, we go to the floor to tune in to the natural vibrations and shaking that is produced in the body. The key is allowing this tremoring while we are at rest. The body will intelligently move, unwind, and soften whatever tension patterns and stresses are stored within its muscles and fascia. The tremor can move throughout any part of the body, not just the legs. All of the exercises can be modified or even omitted if necessary in case of previous injuries, mobility concerns, hypersensitivities or chronic illness difficulties such as fatigue.
With continued practice, the body will intelligently use this tremor to gradually open up the entire body, working through bracing patterns and sensations, and then later opening up emotions and deeper subconscious material.
An added bonus about TRE is that it is primarily a passive process. You do not have to think a certain thing or go through a complex process of remembering or reprocessing events and memories. For those of us with chronic illness who have practiced brain retraining and somatics, we know that these can often involve a complicated process. The certain way we may be encouraged to do visualizations, vagal toning, breath patterns, and movements, can be helpful but also overwhelming and tiring, especially if we are already low in energy and mental focus. With TRE, after a few sessions, often all that is necessary is to simply lay on the floor and allow the tremor to start, and let it go wherever it needs to go and do whatever it needs to do.
Some ways our bodies release tension
Shaking, movements, twitches, tremoring
Yawning
Sighing
Burping
Crying
Laughing
Angering
Myofascial unwinding
With TRE, we learn to befriend and welcome these varied forms of release, both during the session and outside of the session.

Embodied Processing is a process or framework that is influenced by many different modalities.
EP helps us to explore the roots of our depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, habits, patterns, relationship issues, overwhelm, addiction, and more.
Using curiosity and non-judgment, we follow the body and trust that it has an innate intelligence to bring us back into balance. Positive shifts, insights, softening of protective parts of the body, and transformation happen as we support the process in a safe and regulated way.
Why Choose Embodied Processing?
As we work with regulation and embodiment practices such as TRE, we may find that subconscious material starts to rise to the surface of our awareness. This can show up as memories, impulses, imagery, symbolism, dreams, symptoms, triggers, etc. Embodied Processing (EP) gives us a wonderful way to observe this subconcious content, understand it, sit with it, and process it in a more direct way so it is not stuck in our body and draining or holding our energy back.
Some clients may choose to learn TRE and regulation tools over the course of several sessions and then continue that work on their own, with some refresher sessions here and there. However, the nature of EP tends to lend with working with the EP practitioner over a longer period of time. As this relationship between client and practitioner is built, there can be a greater container to practice working on trust, connection, attunement, and relational pieces. This means that EP can be helpful for developmental and C-PTSD as well as for shock trauma.
What Does an EP Session Look Like and what is included ?
To simplify greatly:
We first spend some time in regulating the nervous system and anchoring this relaxation into the body using a variety of resource options.
Then, if the client is ready for this stage, we invite in the trigger and explore the thoughts, emotions, sensations, impulses, images, and memories connected to the trigger.
We process this content connected to the trigger with a variety of techniques.
Throughout the session and also in closing the session, we bring attention to any sense of positive shifts, resolution, and completion.
We check in with the nervous system and perhaps make a plan for the next session.
Education is provided throughout as needed
A video of the flowchart of an EP Session can be found HERE.

Embodied Inquiry deepens the wok of Embodied Processing.
We explore further into the body and the subconscious parts that we find. We can learn things like:
What are the origins of the part
What are the beliefs the part holds?
How is this part benefiting us?
Who would we be without the part?
Does the part need to move or express itself in any way?
What is the part protecting us from?
And more

Parts work is based off of the model called Internal Family Systems by psychologist Richard Schwartz.
Have you ever said, “Part of me wants to do this, but part of me doesn’t?
“Part of me is excited about the event, but part of me is also really anxious.”
“Part of me wants to go to the party, but part of me is exhausted and wants to just stay home.”
“Part of me wants to laugh at what just happened, but part of me knows that just isn’t appropriate here.”
“I want to rest, but part of me just makes me keep overachieving and overthinking.”
There are countless examples parts may show up in our life. Often times these “parts” are formed at the time of a stressor or traumatic event in our life, as a way for our mind-body system to survive and get through it. Part of our life-force energy splits off and creates a part. It is also very common for there to be many different split-off or orphaned parts and even complex systems of parts that affect each other. In a somatic sessio, we can start to bring awareness to these parts.
What is their story?
What is their job
When did they start protecting us?
What burden or pain are they holding?
What do they need to feel witnessed and cared for?
How can we help them?
Parts work helps us to unblend from the strong pull of parts that pull us into unhealthy behavior. This could be things like passing on abuse or neglect to others the way that we learned from our caregivers, or being compelled to use addictive substances or do addictive behaviors. When we can unblend from our parts, lead them from a grounded place, and unburden the pain that they are carrying, then deep transformation can take place. When the pain is no longer there, then we are free to move through life in the present, not trapped in the past.

Sometimes we need a bit more support in between the main sessions.
This could look like a variety of things. Typically, calls would include some regulation and embodiment practices.
What is happening for you this day? This week?
How is your nervous system doing?
What is triggering you?
What emotions are involved?
What is new and good in your life?
What are you grateful for?
What positive changes do you see happening in your life?
Sometimes we just need to talk. Sometimes we just need to vent. And sometimes we just need to know that someone is there supporting us and that we are not alone.
Let me know if this is something you are looking for.

Reviews
“I had a very positive experience working with Evan. I already had a little practice with TRE on my own, but learned so much more by working with him. My sessions were conducted with care and professionalism. I have experience with other mind body practices, but found TRE to be profoundly more helpful in developing a deeper connection with my body. I’m grateful for the guidance I received and would highly recommend Evan to anyone looking to learn the practice.
— Emily, Fleetwood, PA“Just wanted to share: I slept like a baby last night and for the first time in I don't know how long, I actually remembered part of a dream.”
— Sherry, Linden, PA“I've been interested in polyvagal theory, the nervous system and body-centered, somatic therapy for a while and was intrigued with TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercise) when I found it through Mountain & Meadow Health. Evan has been a gem to work with in learning about TRE. His demeanor is calm, caring, detail-oriented and he is a wonderful teacher who listens and observes with focused attention and patience. I'm glad to have him and TRE as an ongoing personal resource on my journey and recommend you utilize his service to evaluate if TRE can be a helpful tool on your path.”
— Dave, Hanover Township, PA“It was a very nice experience. Evan has a very calming voice, is very talented at guiding you to a calm state. I have discovered the loop of trauma pattern that takes place when i get activated by the threat of being seen. I learned to anchor when i get activated which as a result regulated my nervous system at the end of the session. And after the session i maintained the regulated state.”
— Maria D., Romania “[Working with Evan was] excellent. I genuinely enjoyed the session and can't fault it. The timing was perfect and everything flowed perfectly. Evan felt very safe to work with and I enjoyed the whole time. I was guided and supported to process exactly what I needed to. I notice Evan didn't project onto me or make any assumptions about me. I was just met where I was at and we worked from there. [Before the session] I was feeling stuck and intellectualising a lot! [The session gave me awareness] that I need to have stronger boundaries with certain people and I felt confident I am safe to assert my boundaries. Realising I have the power to leave friendships / relationships that are coercively controlling. The awareness of: I was being gas lit by 'loved ones' and a 'friend' I really valued. But, when I had time to reflect on their behaviours, I realised I was in fact being used as a dumping ground and a punching bag for people who really didn't value me, they were just eroding me and using me for resources and regulation. The benefit of all of this is I have cut people off and have my bandwidth back to focus on myself now instead of being time and energy drained! [After the session, I feel] a little shocked at how blind I was to these people and doing what they do and how much I put up with. After processing it, I felt a lot of relief and its always good to have more r&r time for myself or invest my time, energy and effort into other people and friendships that give and receive, not just take and drain me. I don't overthink as much and am connected with my intuition more now too.”
— A.W., Australia “The TRE Evan provides is tantamount to healing and revitalization. His calm demeanor and clear communication skills make learning and practicing TRE achievable for anyone willing to learn. Highly recommend.”
— Jesse, Pennscreek, PA“The session with Evan was informative and professional. The warm up stretches were comfortable and I was surprised that I tremored as quickly as I did. The deep relaxation and calmness after the session was unexpectedly welcome. It was a very good experience and I am still doing TRE on my own.”
— Hope, Northumberland, PA“Being new to TRE, I had some questions about what its value is and how it works. Evan was able to explain to me, along with the use of some charts, how my body should be doing in regulating stress, and how TRE can help in getting back into sync. I found that to be helpful. Also, since using TRE, my carpal tunnel syndrome has improved.”
— Greg, Northumberland, PA“At the end of the first session, I felt more in my body and a bit calmer in my mind. I also had some awareness of how my abdominals felt like they were holding tension or trauma that would need released eventually.”
— S.F. Palmerton, PA“
Having a male work with me was amazing. His presence was instantly recognised as safe and supportive. Just throughout the session his words and his way of interacting revealed his knowledge and deep awareness of holding space with people. Evan has a wonderful ability to create a safe nurturing session . I feel lucky to have had an opportunity.”
— Nicky, Australia “He is very calm, pleasant and offers good suggestions throughout the session. Evan was also good in adapting to the different things that were coming up for me by offering different techniques, to see what felt best for me.”
— Theresa, Australia “Evan helped me see clearly what was actually underlying my frustration.”
— Jo, Australia “Evan led a very client centred session. He came across as gentle and compassionate, and very allowing and welcoming to whatever came up and in whatever direction. He felt like a very safe person to be with from the outset. [During the session] I was able to get in touch with some long-held feelings of anger and tension in my body. [After the session] I felt lighter and calmer”
— Caroline, Bristol, UK “I worked with Evan for half a year. He brings a calm, understated presence, paired with a sense of humour. He is experienced, well attuned to body language, and skilled at providing guidance, including by adjusting to my fluctuating capacity. This made the sessions feel safe and grounded. Evan supported me in connecting to anger, which had been repressed throughout my life, and in allowing sadness to surface and move through instead of pushing it away. The space he held made it possible to raise difficult issues that I had never spoken about, as well as to process daily challenges. Sessions created a rare sense of safety and connection in relationship - one that allowed me to work through discomfort and shame towards trust, which I had otherwise lacked in my life. It has been a very valuable and meaningful experience on my recovery journey from chronic illness and an important catalyst to trauma healing”
— Laura C., London, UK “Actually, my stress level was way down this weekend after TRE.”

Talking with a therapist can be a great support to have. Being seen and heard and understood by somebody else can be very powerful and is often a necessary part of healing. Working with both a therapist, and with a practitioner trained in somatics and trauma can be great. However, the effects of C-PTSD, Abuse, Neglect, PTSD, and shock(acute) trauma is stored in the body until there is enough safety and support and connection to bring the body back into balance.
In my experience and the experience of others, most talk therapists are not trained or skilled in working with the body and the nervous system. I don’t believe you can work with something stored in the body by only talking about it.
At best, talk therapy can provide some support and increased understanding of your situation and a feeling that someone cares and understands your situation. At worst, it can retraumatize you if you are just talking about past negative events without your body and nervous system being ready for it. Or it may not do much of anything, and you just find yourself spending a lot of money and time going to sessions.
I haven’t heard of many people finding real resolution or healing from just talk therapy alone.

Everybody is different. This is not a fast-paced work.
There are many types of trauma and different ways of categorizing them.
In general, the more intense or “big” the trauma was, the longer the trauma lasted, the earlier in life the trauma was, the more the trauma involved your parents or caregivers, and the less support you had at the time of the trauma, the more complicated it is to work with. The body and conscious mind has usually intelligently disconnected from the disturbing and painful thoughts, emotions, sensations, and impulses of past events or time periods, or they have never built connections to them in the first place.
I’ve heard of people who were holding general tension and people who were holding shock trauma in their body, who saw large improvements and shifts happening in just one or a few sessions from somatic and emotional work. I’ve also seen and heard my own and others’ experiences that C-PTSD can take months to many years. There are very many layers that come to the surface and can be worked through.
Personally, my C-PTSD and Chronic Illness took me about 7 years until larger physical shifts started happening for me and I moved more consistently out of functional freeze. Other testimonials support the idea of often needing 5-10 years of support minimum before finding greater resolution for complex trauma. -
It depends on a few factors.
What your budget is is obviously one of these.
An important part of healing is safety, and an important part of safety is a sense of regularity and consistency.
At minimum, I would say
2 sessions at 60 minutes each, per month, is recommended for Embodied Processing or
2 sessions of TRE per month
With TRE, the goal is that you are continuing to practice on your own pretty regularly in between the sessions with me. 4 sessions per month of TRE or EP could be better. And adding in support calls or messaging in between sessions might be even better. However, if you have a very complex situation going on, or connecting and opening up to sensations, emotions, and impulses is very new or foreign to you, then more is not necessarily better. Sometimes we can overwhelm the nervous system by forcing it into sessions or into social engagement, when we may have to go at a much slower pace for a much longer time.

I keep a few spots available each month for a reduced rate for those that need it. Contact me at evan@mountainandmeadowhealth.com to see if any are available.
I believe that you do have to devote time and money to your wellbeing and growth. I regularly spend money each month on my own personal sessions and continue to see improvements and gains and understanding. You know, I’d rather save that money for something else, but I view it as a necessary thing to budget for.
If funds are very limited for you, you can still find online tools for free on my Resources page HERE under meditations.
I have found that working by yourself will probably only get you so far, especially if you have more complex trauma. We are designed to connect and have co-regulation with others.

TRE can be helpful for all of these conditions. We MAY be able to work together. If we do, then we do not do as many exercises, and the duration of actual tremoring is reduced quite a lot initially with more rest built in. Also the pacing of increasing our tremoring is often done more gradually.
With an average person, without chronic illness or a sensitive nervous system, he or she may be able to tremor up to 15 minutes and be fine with that at the beginning, and extend the time of tremoring after a month or two. However, with a sensitive nervous system or chronic illness, a person may only be able to tremor for 20 seconds to a few minutes per session, and gradually extend the tremoring over the upcoming months and years if tolerated.
Please get in touch with me if you are not sure.

No. All of us were designed with the natural ability to shake and tremble in order to release stress, trauma, and tension, and rebalance our nervous system.
The tremors require no conscious effort. They get straight to the nervous system.
TRE is not a form of fitness. The exercises are simply a means to help activate your tremor reflex mechanism and once that has happened, the point is to simply let your body tremor whenever it needs to release stress.
You may find that TRE can be a wonderful complement to all other forms of bodywork and exercise and that all of these practices can really enhance or bring a different quality and depth to each other.

TRE® has not been evaluated by the US Food & Drug Administration or the American Medical Association. This technology is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Medical advice must only be obtained from a physician or qualified health practitioner. Results may vary between individuals. There are no guarantees, expressed, or implied.
Again, we MAY be able to work together. There is a good chance you are somewhat sensitive or hypersensitive, so we may need to go at a slower pace with more rest breaks.
TRE can be helpful and supportive for individuals with C-PTSD. Personally, I have found TRE incredibly helpful for my C-PTSD, with gradual changes over a long time. However, C-PTSD is very connected to our relationship not just to our own body, but relationship to others. You may find that adding relational work such as found in Embodied Processing to be a great piece to add along with TRE.

Item descriptionIt definitely can be! A consent form is always filled out first, and then I ask for your permission before each offering of touch. Touch can be helpful at the beginning of TRE to help you set up your feet, knees, and legs in a better position to make the tremoring more accessible. During the tremoring, touch can be used for support, such as underneath your head and neck, shoulders, back, feet, etc. Touch can also be useful to provide resistance for you to push against, or to assist your body to achieve a greater stretch, rotation, placement, etc, if you are feeling the impulse that this would be helpful for you.
